Wet Start

Google John McCain and wet start...

Big Oil

So the political ads have begun and oil is the main topic... The republicans are blaming democrats for blocking increased drilling here in the US. The democrats are blaming the republicans for not investing in alternative energy and for oil speculation... the truth is that there is blame for all involved. We need to be pumping oil anywhere we can find it and at the same time look for ways to reduce oil consumption. We need to pass laws to prevent non-consumers of oil from purchasing oil contracts. We need to be investing in renewable sources of energy. Both sides are correct and both sides are wrong.

Just Stupid

I was watching the news and some military guy was testifying in front of congress about don't ask, don't tell. He said that if it is cold soldiers have to huddle close together to conserve body heat. That is the stupidest argument I have ever heard... if it is so cold that you have to huddle to stay alive, the last thing on your mind is going to be sucking your neighbors dick.

I really am getting old...

I can stand current fashion. I am so sick of seeing pants that are too large hanging half way off the ass. Boxers pulled up showing over the top. I am tired of men in shorts that come down an inch or two from the ankles (just fucking wear pants already). And while I am griping... yes I know 90% of America is overweight but could the clothing manufacturers make at least some clothes that fit healthy people? It used to be if you were fat you had to go to big mens stores... pretty soon they are going to need to make thin mens stores because you can't find clothes that aren't meant for fat men. OK just had to get that rant out... Thank you for enduring.

Summertime

This is my favorite time of year, unfortunately my job is sucking up most of the time that I would be enjoying it. I did at least get away last weekend to OKC. We drove down after a pool party at a friends house. I have gone to the Habana for the 4th of July before and it was crazy busy with people from all over the country, but this year wasn't very bust at all. I enjoy meeting people from other places but I think everyone stayed home this year because of gas and airline prices. I got an email from the other day wanting me to sign a petition to stop oil speculation... it had some interesting statistics. I am copying the text below and check out www.StopOilSpeculationNow.com if you would like to know more:

Twenty years ago, 21 percent of oil contracts were purchased by speculators who trade oil on paper with no intention of ever taking delivery. Today, oil speculators purchase 66 percent of all oil futures contracts, and that reflects just the transactions that are known.

Speculators buy up large amounts of oil and then sell it to each other again and again. A barrel of oil may trade 20-plus times before it is delivered and used; the price goes up with each trade and consumers pick up the final tab. Some market experts estimate that current prices reflect as much as $30 to $60 per barrel in unnecessary speculative costs.

My first contribution this election cycle

I made my first political contribution this election cycle last night. I usually contribute while the primaries are going to the person I want to be the nomination (Last time it was Howard Dean) but this year I held off because I liked Hillary and Obama pretty much equally. Now that Obama is the nomination I went ahead and put my money where my mouth is... it is time for everyone who gripes about Bush to start contributing... unless you want his clone McCain for president.
